Mavs May be in the Finals, but Their Logo is in Last Place

by: Charles Lawson

The Dallas Mavericks have played second fiddle to the Cowboys in the Metroplex ever since their inception. Odds are that they always will. Whether it's fair that a team that has been a perennial contender for a long time now is a second class citizen to a team that has been more dud than dynasty for over a decade now is arguable.

But there is no comparison when you get down to the teams respective branding. The Dallas Cowboy star is one of the most iconic logos in the world. If you have any grip on American culture, you know that star.

Graphic Design "Schools": A Quick Rant

By: Rocky Alvarado

When I was 17 years old, I was obsessed with art. I was at that point in my life when college was looming and I had to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Based on my talents I was set to be either a starving artist or homeless. Then the concept of being a graphic designer was brought up to me by my art teacher. I rolled with it since the idea of being able to take my love of art and find a way to make a living with it was pretty enticing. I enrolled at the Art Institute of Houston and began my training. My time at AIH was wonderful, and I honestly believe that it was a good decision to go there.

11 years later, I am literally one of the only people I know who actually still works in the field that they studied.  So needless to say I have felt pretty good about my choice to go to a vocational school, but with my current perspective I see that the graphic design field is utterly and hopelessly over-saturated with sub-standard talent, and these schools continue pumping them out semester after semester.

Hidden meaning in the Fed EX logo????

WHOA! just earlier today someone pointed out the hidden arrow in the FedEx logo to me and I felt like a moron for not noticing it all this time! Just shows you why this is such a timeless logo.

The thought that goes into a logo like this, to put that little negative space arrow... just awesome.

Why is a good designer so hard to find?

by Rocky Alvarado

Whether you're a start-up business or an established corporation, quality design is a huge part of how your company is perceived. It could make a small business look legit, and unfortunately, can also make quality businesses look small-time.
With all the Technical schools that now seem to pump out designers by the bunch, logical thinking would say that quality designers are plentiful right? Well as many businesses can tell you, that is just not the case. I have heard horror story after horror story from business owners who have had a difficult time pairing up with a reliable graphic designer.
